Meeting: February

On Monday January 12th, I will sign the IRS application on behalf of the Belmar Neighborhood for tax-exempt status. The application will be officially mailed that day. It has taken a year to complete this process! If all goes well we will have a temporary number in the coming months in which to operate under until the official number is assigned to us. This is great news for our neighborhood as we can now look to Metro Government for numerous resources that we would not have been able to tap without this status.

On a another note, I wanted to enlighten everyone about the collaborative effort of the Preston Corridor Task Force. It is a group that is working with State Rep. Jim Wayne and the Metro Development Authority of Metro Government to address the visual appeal and retail appeal of Preston Highway between the Watterson X-Way and Eastern Parkway. This is effort is being driven by a partnership between the Belmar Neighborhood, the City of Parkway Village, the Preston Area Business Association and the City of Audubon Park. Our efforts together have been so successful that the MDA is going to underwrite the cost of a physical architect and a landscape architect to lead us in what is called a "charette" process in March. This process will be open to all business owners and operators on Preston and the neighbors in the above-mentioned areas. The charette is a way to have the architects
hear our concerns and, more importantly, our dreams for the area. Then
they will turn it into a physical drawing for us to strive toward. A collective goal!!

I will be back in touch regarding a February neighborhood association meeting date. As always, visit www.bnainc.org to stay informed.

"Children at Play / Speed Limit Sign"

Importance: High
Luann,
At Evadne's request, I reviewed this area over the weekend to ensure
proper speed limit signage is in place. Based on this review, I found
only one area that lacked speed limit signs. Union was not posted.
Although Metro PD does not need 25 mph speed limit signs to enforce the
ordinance, I have written a work order to install one (1) 25 mph speed limit
sign on Union, just east of Preston Highway. Signs & Markings will install
this sign as soon as scheduling permits.
Should you have any questions, please let me know.
Dan

Marilyn, our office has had a request for street signage that
states "SLOW Children at Play". I'm not sure if the City has ever provided
these, however, if they are available, the Belmar Neighborhood Association
would like to have them placed on Union Avenue near Preston St., on
Fayette Ave. near the Larue intersection and on Fayette near Belmar.
Please e-mail me the report number. Thanks.

"No Parking Fire Lane Signs"

As a result of a traffic/parking assessment conducted on Wolfe Avenue and Bourbon Avenue, the fire department has installed new "no parking fire lane" signs. This effort by the fire department is to ensure school buses and emergency vehicles have safe access to any home in our neighborhood. There had been scenarios in the past where vehicles could not maneuver through the streets effectively.

"Enterprise Zone"

Hey Everybody -
At our last Board of Directors meeting, Rhonda Henning mentioned she had made a discovery about our neighborhood that may be news to some of us. Apparently, we are part of the "Enterprise Zone" in Louisville which is a 20 year old program that will actually be ending its run on December 31, 2003. However, if you are considering home improvements before that deadline date, you may be interested to know that you need not pay tax on any of those purchases made to improve your home. This is the benefit of living in the zone.

If you want more information about the enterprise zone, please call Gordon Melton at 574-1528. To get your building supplies tax free, please call 502-564-3658 to request the ("tax free") forms to carry to your home improvement store or the like. Explain that you are a homeowner that resides within the "Enterprise Zone" and they will know what you are talking about.

Good luck.
