the path to transformation!

Preston Corridor Rendering

With the leadership of the Belmar Neighborhood Association (BNA), a group of residents and local business owners, Belmar has created a strategic action plan for its neighborhood. In the fall of 2004, Belmar became the first neighborhood to complete Louisville Metro government's Neighborhood Assessment Process (NAP), which provides a resident-developed tool for neighborhoods to lead their own transformation. The Belmar neighborhood acted as a test case for this citizen-empowerment process that includes neighborhood surveys, strengths and needs analysis, and action-plan development. In September 2005, one year after beginning the research for a Belmar community center and rejuvenating the Preston Corridor Improvement Project, both Belmar action plan priorities, the
BNA
secured their separate 501(c)(3) to acquire land for an initial a gathering space with future plans to move toward the acquisition of an enclosed community space.  Plus, the Preston Corridor Planning Group, which is facilitated by Belmar leadership for the first Phase of the Preston Corridor Improvement Plan, received the official artistic representation of their collective vision for the Preston area - the architectural rendering of the new Preston Corridor. For the past year, Belmar has been negotiating land deals and managing and facilitating the work of the Preston Corridor Planning Group (Phase I), a redevelopment committee charged with beautifying Preston Highway. The BNA has identified the land for the proposed gathering space, which will initially provide recreational activities for the community's youth and an outdoor entertainment venue for all.  As a result of the continued work and progress of Preston Corridor Planning Group, the new Preston area will have new and repaired sidewalks, street lighting, decorative plantings, flowering trees, neighborhood banners, community greenspace, and a decorative railroad overpass
