| Hi Neighbors - It has been a while since we have met in person and there are several reasons for that. There had been through the fall lengthy conversations and meetings about the painting and design aspects related to the Norfolk Southern viaducts on Preston and Belmar Drive, and a lengthy preparation process and hearing related to the future of the property where the former Fairground Liquors sits. Most of these meetings took place during the daytime hours and often times on short notice. However, the hearing information related to the liquor store was posted for months on the www.bnainc.org site, and in the Courier Journal. My role in this association is one of a volunteer, so I am only able to give a certain amount of time for meetings. Thus, the larger gatherings were sidelined through this intense period of decision-making. I hope the fall newsletter helped to keep you informed. As you might have noticed, the Belmar Drive viaduct was painted due to a joint effort between Camp Taylor's neighborhood association, our neighborhood association and Councilman King's office. Since the Councilman's office funded that paint job, the color chosen was at their discretion. The input Belmar gave on color was the suggestion that it be bright enough for a driver to identify at night, and that request was met. The artwork on the abutments on the Preston trestle were able to be completed with painted artwork by December 2007. The ability to paint on concrete versus the metal overpass differs in freezing weather. We need the temperature to stay above 40-50 degrees for a while to act on the trestle. We have a lot to look forward to as the weather warms and that artwork is added. The design for the trestle is both different and complimentary of the artwork on the abutments. We are planning to pull together a postcard to be mailed in the coming weeks where we will have a short morning meeting on a Saturday before we head out to pick up trash and debris from the storms along the Preston corridor. We also have an edger tool for our use, if we would like to edge out the sidewalks along Preston (on our residential side of the street) from Morgan down to Hart Avenue. We have over 300 new plants added up near and around the Preston viaduct that were planted and maintained by Luv-it Landscaping. This effort was/is funded partly by the proceeds of the Louisville from A to Z book and partly by Councilman Jim King's office. Jim Weiter of Luv-it landscaping worked with us on the labor related to this project and the selection of the plants. He was/is a great asset in this partnership and his company has been good to us. We should see a beautiful result in the Spring when these plants begin to wake up. Many thanks to those of you who joined the association in response to the fall newsletter, and for those who have continued to share your time as an active member. Please let me know if you have any further questions about the notes above. Also, please feel free to share this information with neighbors. Not everyone has an email address. There are notes below that I was asked to share by various neighbors: 1) A neighbor on Bourbon had a their car ransacked and mirrors broken one evening while it was parked in their own driveway. Please be aware and please help each other notice when or if situations seem suspect. 2) U of L College of Education and Human Development offers the BS in Workforce Leadership Attention working adults.
